Is It Normal To See Bugs After A Pest Treatment? Somerset KY

Transcribed from “The Pest Perspective” episode, “Should I Still Be Seeing Bugs After A Pest Control Treatment? with Pest Instructor Hadassah Hess

So, somehow, somewhere, you found bugs in your home and you’ve called in the exterminators. We’ve treated for the problem pest – but you’re still seeing them and you’re left scratching your head, wondering if you should still be seeing bugs, and if so, why?!  And the answer is yes, however, it may not be for the reason you think. Today we will be discussing why this happens, and what to do about it.

Why Am I seeing More Bugs? Shouldn’t I Be Seeing Less?

It’s not unusual that homeowners will call in pest control expecting an immediate fix to the couple of bugs they saw. But what you may not realize is that these few bugs are likely just a small portion of a more serious infestation. This means that there could be hundreds more bugs hiding away in your home that you didn’t even know about, and as the treatment sets in, these bugs are often pushed out of hiding and, although most of them will die, it can take up to a few days once the treatment has dried.

But don’t be alarmed. Just because these bugs are coming out of hiding does not mean your treatment isn’t working! In fact, this means it’s doing its job! the bugs are simply running from the treatment in place- but they aren’t going to get away! With Four Seasons on your side, you can rest assured that your pest problem will be conquered!

Different pests call for different treatment protocols. With modern advances in pesticides, like lower toxicity levels and pest-specific targeting, non-repellency, and sometimes tandem active ingredients, kill times can be potentially slower, but much longer lasting.

So, what this means is that while sometimes immediate results can be seen, it isn’t always the case. This doesn’t mean these treatments aren’t effective though. When we use products designed to be used for specific pests and for extended periods of time, some pests, like spiders, ants, and beetles, may take a bit longer to eliminate, but that elimination and prevention is often much longer lasting. Our goal is to reach the entire infestation for complete elimination, not simply eradicate what you are seeing and only suppress the remainder of the infestation.

Sometimes it's normal to continue seeing pests right after a pest treatment.

What Should I Do If I’m Still Seeing Bugs Far Past My Treatment?

As was mentioned, it is perfectly normal for these bugs to be active after a treatment- they want to escape… but this shouldn’t last forever. If you are still seeing pests a few weeks past the treatment, it’s best to contact your pest control company so they can give you the next steps to take. Some pests, like roaches, bed bugs, brown recluse spiders, fleas, and others, can take longer to eliminate. Here at Four Seasons, we can guide you on what you should expect from your treatment, depending on the pest that’s being treated for.
