Fly Control
Fly control issues cause significant problems in both commercial, residential and agricultural settings. Their ability to spread disease, contaminate food and leave behind a mess of fecal deposits is enough to make anyone hate them. Unfortunately, we’re often faced with them suddenly and without warning and sometimes by the thousands.
Unlike crawling pests, flying pest can be more difficult to control. Often times, insecticides and baits alone just won’t do the trick. Mechanical control and exclusion are often necessary for optimal success in fly management. Additionally, depending on the type of fly, sanitation and indoor modifications are necessary as well.
Regardless of their numbers, why they are present or how they are getting in, Four Seasons can help.
Fly Lifecycle and Reproduction
We usually worry about flies in one life stage; the adult. Of course maggots are gross and we don’t want those either, but typically that’s not a life stage we deal with when we have flies. However, the lifecycle of a fly is still very important when implementing control measures.

Fly Control
The best way to control flies is to practice good sanitation before a fly infestation breaks out. A few key tips might aid in prevention although they aren’t full-proof:
- Eat or dispose of all fresh fruits and vegetables or properly store them. Properly store other foods.
- Do not leave food or food debris out in the open.
- If opening doors and windows, make sure screens are placed over the open areas so flies can’t get in.
- Keep brush cut back away from house and keep lawn mowed.
- Practice good sanitation and cleaning.
- Keep waste cans inside and outside, clean and free of debris and smells.
Since prevention methods are well less than full-proof, you may very well find yourself with an infestation. When that happens, Four Seasons Pest Solutions has got you covered!
How Do We Get Rid of Flies?
Flies are found in every part of the world with the exception of polar regions. Furthermore, every person is likely to deal with flies at some point. The question is, what will you do when that time comes? Knowing their lifecycle, food sources, attractants, lifespan and type of fly is important when implementing control measures. No matter the fly species or area of infestation, our IISSMR Fly Control Program is the answer.
The IISSMR Fly Control Program includes:
- Inspection
- Identification
- Sanitation
- Structural Modification
- Mechanical Control
- Residual Control
Inspection tells us where the flies are active, where they may be coming from and where they could be harboring. Identification is necessary to determine the type of fly so proper control measures can be achieved. Sanitation must be maintained to avoid most types of flies. Structural modification is often necessary to exclude flies from entering a structure. Mechanical control can be achieved by using fly light traps, air curtains and other devices made to trap or repel flies. Residual control can include liquid and granular baits, When our IISMER Fly Control Program is followed, flies can be wiped from any facility. When it comes to flies, a comprehensive plan and program should be implemented. Four Seasons has you covered!

DIY Fly Control. Does it Work?
Perhaps the most effective DIY control for flies already present, is nothing other than the old flyswatter! There’s no shortage of products available over-the-counter which boast of their ability to control flies. However, the vast majority of them only kill on contact, just like a flyswatter.
In addition to contact kill insecticides, over-the-counter baits are available as well. Usually these work on local infestations outside but should not be used indoors. Other methods like fly strips and fly traps can help decrease numbers but will rarely eliminate the problem. While DIY methods are relatively affordable, they offer minimal control for infestations.
The bottom line is very simple: if you have a few flies, try a DIY method and it may likely work. If you have more than a few flies, it’s probably time to call in the pros at Four Seasons Pest Solutions. Our ISSMR Fly Control Program is great for residential and commercial fly elimination. Additionally, we offer several other options for small businesses and homeowners alike.
DIY useful on a few flies but when infestations are present, it’s best to call a professional.
